Friday was a long day. I went to the town of Weimar, a small city about two hours from Dresden. Weimar is known as the "city of the German classics", being the home of such people as Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland - even Bach lived there for about 8 years.

I love ruins (there's an unknown newsflash, hehe) and there were a couple of ruins around. The funny thing is, in the park they built a "ruin" sometime in the 1700s because apparently ruins in parks are good luck. Then in one of the wars the building across from the "ruin" got ruined - hahahahaha! What a hoot. I like the real ruin, it looks cool. What a great backdrop for wedding photos or whatever.

The Court Theater was built in 1779, later a statue of Goethe and Schiller was erected in front of it. Funny thing about this statue is that Schiller was actually a few inches taller than Goethe, yet the statue shows them both to be the same height...
The building was destroyed in the war,but the statue (which had been enclosed in cement) was unharmed.

We were a group of eight, despite the snow and cold it was a good time!
Oh, the beer is from some young (20's) men who thought I was cool, so offered me a been while we chatted (laughed) while waiting for the WC (washroom), Irma was there too. They were quite funny -
lots of laughs.

Saw this young man standing around waiting for his train - felt sorry for him standing there all alone, so chatted a "wee" bit (his English was very limited) and got my pic taken with. It was a sacrifice on my part - I really don't like men in uniforms... hehe!

Then I met this friendly young man (21) on the last leg of our trip home. He was my seat mate, and a very nice man. Turns out he did part of his education in Canada - is hoping to go back within the next couple of years for the practicum part. Very nice boy - great laugh!

Irma and I decided we were not quite done with the day, so went to one of the Glühwein huts for a Glühwein mit Rum before heading home -
YUMMM! She had not tasted it before... oops, I think she's hooked :o)

This is how it looked outside the next morning when we woke up, and it has been snowing everyday since. Soft fluffy
HUGE snowflakes.
